People who paid - in metrics or cash - to play a game enriching its makers are the greedy ones. Hell, I've seen people call players "greedy." Pardon the slanty-bold, but that's important, because another thing I keep seeing is the gatekeepers blaming the DilEx issue on farmers. Even the devs said it wasn't having a major effect on the dilithium exchange. Farming Reputations was the game functioning as designed. That's the "free to play" part of Free To Play. To be clear: You're supposed to amass dilithium to exchange for zen. And the same goes for amassing dilithium to exchange for zen.

Most of the new content is log in, grind, log out. Hell, grinding is an essential part of Star Trek Online, and I do mean essential. Y'all realize this was a game mechanic, right? It was part of what allows Cryptic to call their game "Free To Play." It's how almost all F2P games work: You can get there fast (pay money) or get there slow (grind). I keep seeing the words "abuse" and "exploit," like a bunch of Very Bad Players found some glitch, and were lap-skipping their Mario Karts to fame and fortune mortal players could only dream of. So, having said that, I wanted to address a couple of things I keep seeing in the forums, most prominently that dil farmers are bad and evil and ruin the game and probably kick tribbles for fun or something. With dilithium, which is already a sore spot among players, given the Dilithium Exchange issue. Cryptic made a significant change, one that punished certain players. I suppose I could include the avalanche of outrage posts among the psychic burden, and the subsequent, mystified "Dude, Where's My Dil?" posts, but those are/will be well-earned. My reaction upon hearing that Cryptic was changing the Tier 5 Reputation reward from unrefined dilithium to reputation vouchers was a groan and an eye-roll, as I prepared myself for the throng of gatekeeping lords who were at that moment girding their loins to come out of the woodwork and shake a finger at people for playing the game "wrong."
